介绍
为积极响应“中国出版走出去”的号召，着力向海外传播源远流长的中国文化，外教社近期推出了“外教社中国文化汉外对照丛书”。丛书采撷高层次、高品位、具有代表性的精品力作，使海内外读者通过研读和赏析，零距离感触中国文化 的魅力，接受中国文化的熏陶。担纲丛书翻译的大多是学界泰斗和译坛权威。这些字字珠玑、处处生花的译文不仅可以使海外读者毫无障碍地感悟中国文化的精髓，也可以作为外语翻译的典范，使有志于汉外翻译研究的读者从中受益。
丛书的面世是外教社打造文化精品工程上的一次尝试和创新。外教社还将逐步推出法译本、德译本和其他译本，使世界各地的读者都能共享这道丰盛的中国文化大餐。
【前言】
明代戏剧家、文学家汤显祖(1550—1616)一生诗文、戏剧作品浩繁，在舞台上盛演不衰的四个剧本《紫钗记》、《牡丹亭》(即《还魂记》、《南柯记》和《邯郸记》,由于每部剧作都有梦境的描写，且作者居住于临川的玉茗堂，故合称“临川四梦”或“玉茗堂四梦”。
创作于1600年的《南柯记》,取材自唐代李公佐的传奇小说《南柯太守传》,写的是因酒失职、功名不成的淳于禁，在梦幻中进入蚂蚁族所建的“大槐安国”,被招为驸马并被封为南柯郡太守，经历了宦海浮沉。他在任20年，将南柯治理得井井有条，获得加官进爵，飞黄腾达。公主死后，他逐渐失势终被遣回人间，醒来却是南柯一梦。他在出梦之后，斩断情缘，遁迹空门。
汤显祖的剧本被译成英语介绍到西方是20世纪的事情，在西方流传的主要是他的剧作《牡丹亭》,并获得高度评价。汤显祖是西方人眼中最伟大的中国剧作家，在Daniel S.Burst编著的《100部剧本：世界最著名剧本排行榜》(资料档案出版公司，2008)中，《牡丹亭》名列第32位，是唯一人选的中国剧本。把《南柯记》也译成英语，可以使西方读者更全面地了解汤显祖多方面的精神世界和艺术成就。
